Southwest Airlines has announced price increases for beer, wine, and liquor in advance of the Thanksgiving holiday.
According to the Dallas-based airline, this is the first adjustment in onboard beverage price since 2018. Southwest spokesperson Tiffany Valdez said the airline examined its "position" to keep costs low while providing flexibility to its guests.
As a result, Southwest made the choice to adopt a "modest change" in beverage prices. Beer bought on Southwest, such as Miller Lite, Lagunitas IPA, and Kona Brewing Big Wave Golden Ale, will now cost $7, up from $6.
Wine selections on the carrier will be hiked from $6 to $8, including Cruset Brut sparkling wine, Carmenet Cabernet Sauvignon, Mossel Bay Chenin Blanc Chardonnay, and Stone Cellars California Rosé.
"Even with these changes, Southwest remains competitive within our industry and customers flying with us can select from free non-alcoholic beverages and snacks on our flights, including soft drinks, juices, coffee, tea, and water," Valdez stated in a press release.
