Grizzlies' Jaren Jackson Jr on Ja Morant's absence and their slow start to 2023-24

If only Ja Morant's 25-game suspension for his second social media gun flashing incident had not been imposed. If only Brandon Clarke (left Achilles tendon) and Steven Adams (right knee) hadn't sustained injuries that ended their seasons.

If so, the Memphis Grizzlies might have opened the 2023–24 campaign with a record that was higher than the worst in the Western Conference (2–8).

The Grizzlies were positive despite defeating the LA Clippers, a squad that has had trouble integrating James Harden. Morant's continued participation in team dinners, film sessions, and practices is partially to blame for that.

For reasons unrelated to Morant's abilities as a two-time NBA All-Star, that has improved team morale.

Regarding Morant's attitude, Grizzlies forward Jaren Jackson Jr. described it as "very positive." "They're always really upbeat."

Jackson discussed Morant's presence, his plans to defend his Defensive Player of the Year award, and the lessons learned from Team USA's FIBA World Cup fourth-place

Jackson: "My perspective is new. Nothing occupies my thoughts too much. I would approach any other season in the same manner. Needless to say, the season has been long. But I simply stick with it.

Jackson: "My fellow players. My teammates lend a hand. It also includes them. Nothing you accomplish is ever done by yourself. There's a reason this is a team sport. That it's not tennis makes me happy.
