Best Day to Book Flights for Your Next Getaway

While most travel experts believe that there's no best time to buy tickets, there are some days with cheaper fares.

Supply and demand determine the optimal travel day, according to Fiala. Most business travelers fly on Mondays and Fridays, which raises ticket prices.

Fiala says "Flights are cheaper on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, not when bought, but when flying out."

Weekends are more expensive because more people fly on Fridays and Saturdays. Basically, supply and demand."

The Points Guy reports reduced prices for flights departing before 9 a.m. Before 4 and 9 a.m., flights are 15% cheaper than those later in the day.

"You can also save money on flights by booking them late at night or early in the morning," adds Florida Panhandle operations director Nathan Russo. 

Like domestic flights, experts agree there's no optimal day to buy flights, but certain days may have affordable rates. 

Joel Speyers, Prep4Travel co-founder, says these bargains usually launch on Tuesdays or Wednesdays.

"Statistically, midweek departure and return are cheapest," Speyers explains. "Tuesdays and Wednesdays are cheaper than weekends for flying.
